Andhra Pradesh’s FIRST population based Breast Cancer Screening Programme

 

UBF in partnership with Govt. of Andhra Pradesh has successfully conducted a population based Breast Cancer Screening Programme as a Pilot project in 2012/2013 - 28, 347 underprivileged women from Hyderabad District were screened for early signs of Breast Cancer.

Encouraged by the enormous success of the Screening initiative, UBF & KIMS-USHALAKSHMI Centre for Breast Diseases in partnership with Andhra Pradesh Mahila Samatha Society, which is a part of National Mahila Samakhya Programme of Govt. of India launched Andhra Pradesh’s FIRST large scale population based breast cancer screening programme in March 2014.

Well over 1, 00, 000 underprivileged women between the ages of 35-65 years in 15 Districts of Telangana & Andhra Pradesh would be screened for early signs of breast cancer over a one year period commencing between July 2014 – June 2015. Breast cancers detected through this initiative would be treated free of cost through the Rajiv Raogyasree Scheme.

As the first step in this direction, a Training Session was organized for a batch of Core Trainers from Andhra Pradesh Mahila Samatha Society on 15th March 2014 at KIMS-USHALAKSHMI Centre for Breast Diseases. These core trainers will in turn train the remaining team members in 15 Districts of Telangana & Andhra Pradesh in May/June 2014.
