Dr. Raghu Ram, the only doctor from South India, appointed onto Technical Advisory Group (TAG), Ministry of Health, Govt of India
The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare & National Health Mission, Govt of India has appointed Dr. Raghu Ram as member of its Technical Advisory Group (TAG) that will develop training materials necessary to roll out the population based Breast Cancer Screening across the nation. He is the only expert from South India representing this Group. Others members of the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) include Experts from AIIMS, Indian Council of Medical Research, Institute of Public Health, Public Health Foundation of India & PGIMER, Chandigarh.
Earlier in the year, he played a key role as member of a high powered Steering Group appointed by Ministry of Health, Govt of India that approved Operational Guidelines for Prevention, Screening & Control of Non Communicable Diseases. In particular, his suggestion that Clinical Breast Examination (CBE) should be the 'gold standard' population based screening tool in the Community, was unanimously accepted by the Steering Group & subsequently incorporated into National Guidelines by the Govt of India in June 2016.

The Union ministry of health and family welfare has appointed Dr Raghuram, who is the president of The Association of Breast Surgeons of India, a member of its Technical Advisory Group (TAG). The group will develop training materials necessary to roll out population-based breast cancer screening across the nation. Dr Raghuram is the only surgeon from South India picked by the Centre to be part of the committee.

Other members of the Technical Advisory Group include experts from AIIMS, Indian Council of Medical Research, Institute of Public Health, Public Health Foundation of India and PGIMER, Chandigarh.
Dr. Raghuram was selected by the government for his efforts and experience in implementing South Asia’s largest population-based breast cancer screening under the aegis of Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation.
