Dr. P. Raghu Ram, one of the foremost Surgeons from India achieved the unique distinction to become
one of the youngest Surgeons in the Country to be installed as the
82nd President of The Association of Surgeons of India
(ASI) for the year 2020 at the Annual General Body Meeting of the Association held on 21 December 2019 during ASICON 2019 - the Association's Annual Conference, which was held at SOA University campus in Bhubaneshwar.
ASI is
Asia Pacific’s largest and World’s second largest surgical Organisation that represents practicing surgeons and surgical trainees all across India.
Over 7000 surgeons from all over India and abroad are participating in the Association’s flagship annual Congress in Bhubaneshwar being held from 18 – 21 December 2019.
This Election to the apex position of President witnessed the
highest ever polling & biggest ever victory margin in the 82 years history of the Association with thousands of Surgeons from all over India participating actively to choose their President.
Established in 1938,
Association of Surgeons of India is widely considered to be the
‘voice for Surgery’ in India. Starting from a humble beginning with 112 members in 1938, the Association of Surgeons of India has grown phenomenally and is the second
largest in the world after The American College of Surgeons (which is the world's largest surgical body).
ASI has a strong presence in the form of State Chapters and City Branches in all the 29 states and Union territories across India in addition to 12 specialty sections comprising of surgeons practicing the art & science of Breast Surgery, Onco Surgery, Gastrointestinal Surgery, Laparoscopic/Minimal access Surgery, Endocrine surgery, Genito-Urinary Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Thoracic/Cardiovascular surgery, Trauma/Critical Care surgery in addition to Sections representing Rural surgeons and Surgeons in the Armed forces.
The Association promotes the art/science of Surgery and strives to take the latest techniques in the surgical field to the remotest parts of the country in an endeavour to improve the lives of people all over India.
